A Card Reader/Writer Drive that is designed and built exclusively by SCSIforSamplers

The CF-CARD is a solid-state Media Card drive that is fully read/write capable, has no moving parts and makes no noise at all during operation. It has one Compact Flash slot which enables you to use inexpensive Compact Flash (CF) cards for storage, a media type which has proven the most reliable for use with SCSI-enabled samplers. The CF-CARD drive is the fastest CF card drive available today, with read and write speeds as much as 100% faster than the Microtech PCD drives and 50% faster than the Spyrus MCDISK/MCDISK-2 drives. The CF-CARD performs very close to SCSI Hard Drive speed.

These drives accept a Type I or Type II Compact Flash card directly - no PCMCIA adapter needed - and can use a card with a capacity up to 32GB. How much of any SCSI media that your sampler will format and use depends upon its operating system capabilities. This information can sometimes be found in the sampler manual but often times, the manufacturers don't make this info very easy to find and as a result, there is a lot of misinformation being traded on some of the user forums. Because this drive is based upon IDE technology coupled with a SCSI-IDE bridge card, the CF drive is not hotswappable. This means you cannot change CF cards while the sampler is powered on - they can be changed only when the sampler is powered down. This limitation requires that you plan ahead to make sure you never find yourself without adequate free space to save the music you are currently working on but most customers don't find it to be a problem at all once you get used to it. Also, since this drive allows you to use larger capacity CF cards on some samplers (such as 16GB on the Akai MPC2000 Classic and MPC2000XL), many people find they don't ever even need to swap CF cards.

The CF-CARD is compatible with a wide range of samplers and can be mounted internally into many sampler models (check the list below for your sampler). We have developed installation kits for the sampler models where internal installation is possible and you can see those here. If you don't see your sampler model listed, feel free to contact us and we can discuss whether or not an internal installation of the CF-CARD drive will be possible.

We also offer the unit as a solid state drive option, meaning it can be mounted completely inside the sampler, leaving your floppy drive in place, and allowing the CF-CARD to act as a virtual hard drive. You can read all about the CF-SSD unit here.

Also remember that this is a SCSI drive and requires that your sampler have the SCSI interface installed in order to be able to use it. Some people read that it replaces the floppy drive and think that means it uses the same cable and interface as the floppy drive but that is not true. All that means is that this drive mounts in the same place as where the floppy drive mounted; beyond that, they share nothing in common. If you do not have 1.14, you will need to install it in order to use compact flash cards larger than 1GB in capacity.
